When Rita temporarily lost use of her hand due to a hiking accident, she promised herself that she would pursue art after her recovery. She had been drawing since the age of 4, often on the inviting walls of her house... So it is no great surprise she fell in love with pottery-making and has been doing it for over 20 years. Rita incorporates a modern slant in her pottery. Her functional pottery is a good match for the produce at the market, as she creates objects such as “berry bowls.” She also enjoys getting to know people at the market through custom-orders such as dinner sets. The interaction offers meaning both for her and the customer.
Rita currently teaches ceramics at Carrboro High School, and has taught pottery for more than 20 years. She deeply appreciates being supported by the community as an artist and hopes to balance teaching with pottery making and offering pots for sale at Market!
