Our 2010 Special Events calendar tells about many of the tastings and cooking demos scheduled for this season. These events are held both at Carrboro Farmers' Market and Southern Village Farmers' Market.
The series will take place at least once a month at a Wednesday afternoon market and will focus on a familiar, seasonally available ingredient. The Culinary Series will have three key components: cooking, teaching and tasting. The tasting will showcase how, when handled and prepared properly or with a little imagination, these common ingredients can be totally fabulous! Top regional chefs are encouraged to be imaginative about how to use the ingredient – from appetizers and soups to desserts – as well as to teach good handling and preparation techniques.
MAY 12: The Carrboro Farmers' Market Culinary Series continues with A Southern Season's Cooking School Manager, Marilyn Markel, and Susan Crofton showing us a variety of ways to prepare turnips, a root vegetable now in season. They served Crostini With Turnip Greens and Celebrity Dairy Goat Cheese, Roasted Baby Turnips and Cilantro Pecan Pesto.
APRIL 14th: WEDNESDAY MARKET OPENS with the First Ever "Carrboro Market Culinary Series" hosted by Executive Chef Ricky Moore of Giorgio Restaurant, Bar, Lounge. The Carrboro Market Culinary Series is a local foods teaching and tasting event designed to highlight uncommon uses of commonly available local seasonal ingredients. For the opening event, Chef Ricky Moore took on chard.
"Chard is an ingredient that many people feel they know how to cook already, but there are many ways to cook and eat this beautiful green," said Chef Moore. "We had fun creating some great food with this event!"
