CSA

We want to connect you with our vendors who offer CSAs!

What is a CSA?

“CSA” stands for “community supported agriculture”. Typically, a CSA refers to a particular model for buying locally-grown produce where individuals can invest in local farms in exchange for a regular share of their harvest. While CSAs can take many forms, they usually consist of a once-a-week or biweekly box full of goods from the farm. The exact content, prices, frequency, and season of a CSA entirely depends on who you’re ordering from. Farmers and producers curate their own unique variety of local fruits and veggies, meat, and more! Several farmers and producers of the Carrboro Farmers’ Market offer CSA subscription services which you can explore below - CSAs are a unique opportunity to support our farming community and access fresh locally-produced food!

Why CSA?

Participating in a CSA program is a unique and cost-effective opportunity to engage in local food systems that prioritizes sustainable, locally-produced goods as well as the people who cultivate them. By joining a CSA you are participating in an approach to shopping that builds community, supports local farmers and producers, and provides a cost-effective and convenient way to get local food!

  • Support for Local Food Systems: By participating in a CSA, you are actively contributing to the local food system, supporting nearby farmers and promoting the growth of regional agriculture. This support helps to sustain small-scale, local food producers.

  • Hand-picked, high-quality variety: CSA members benefit from top-quality, fresh produce hand selected by local farmers. The curated variety encourages you to explore new ingredients and culinary experiences and contributes to a well-rounded and diverse diet.

  • Cost-Effective Choice: Participating in a CSA program offers an opportunity to make a one-time seasonal payment for produce at a competitive rate, which can be an affordable alternative to traditional shopping if you want to add fresh, local produce to your budget.

  • Community Building: Joining a CSA fosters a sense of community as you have the opportunity to get to know and connect with the people producing your food personally. Many CSAs offer educational components, such as farm tours, workshops, and newsletters, allowing members to further learn about food production, sustainable agriculture, and the challenges faced by local farmers.

  • Sustainability: The small, local farms who offer CSAs help add to the growing landscape of farmers who prioritize sustainable farming techniques. When you subscribe to a CSA, you are helping them continue to uphold those practices.

  • Convenience: Joining a CSA gives you convenient and consistent access to the best of what our farmers have to offer. Farmers may offer CSAs for pickup at market, at an off-site location, or even delivered to your door. This ensures a regular supply of seasonal produce and flexibility - even when you can’t make it to market.
